September 1, 2010
Meeting Today
Pledge: Rebecca Zandvliet
God Bless America: Donald Zehnder, Sr.
Invocation: Bruce Steinway
Four Way Test: Marcelo Martins
50/50 Winner: Jennifer Merrill - she donated all of her winnings to the "Seeds that Feed" program
Song: "Clementine" - chosen by Don Zehnder
Sergeant at Arms: To save time, I should just say that Jeanine fined everyone - but I won't deprive you of her originality!!
Happy Dollars: Bruce Steinway welcomed a new exchange student from Chile - John McCormack for being 41 and asked if he'd like the senior discount when he played golf - Rob Filappone who is taking his family to Disney World - Matt Fortney for all of his children going back to school - Duncan Stephens for his son coming from Vermont to play golf with him.
Fines: (Here goes) Geoff Drawbridge for being a Rotarian for 41 years - longer than some of our members have been alive!! Bruce Steinway received a "missed you" fine. Jenny for being "cured" by Jeanine and crossing her legs at the ankles, which is the proper way. Anne Butler received a "miss you in your colorful outfits" fine. Marcelo for snitching on everybody and not wearing a tie today. Ginger Fennell received a "missed you" fine. Laurie Yelding for advertising her step daughter, Tori, in the newsletter last week. Rob Filippone for his new badge (it will harder for Jeanine to get Rob and Matt mixed up now). Joe DaSilva for not showing up last week. John Aresta for talking during Jane Lobdell's announcement. Jeff Chipokas for needing a "helper" to take attendance today. Tracey Kelly for having Mike Elser serve her a salad. Mike Elser for not serving Jeanine a salad. Jane Lobdell and Duncan Stephens for being very late to our meeting and Jeanine made them recite the Four Way Test. Jane did just fine - but Duncan definitely improvised his recitation!!! Rebecca had to pay a pen rental fee and finally John Roman, because Jeanine really missed him!
General Fine Question: On this day, September 1, 1979 what did a California court rule regarding Clayton Moore? He could no longer wear the "Lone Ranger" mask. Bruce Steinway had the correct answer.

Our Speaker Today
Speaker host today, John McCormack asked Rob Filippone, one of our newer members, to share with us his vocational speech. Rob lives in Middlebury with his wife and two (soon to be three) children. Rob works as a mortgage loan representative with family owned McCue Mortgage. McCue has been in business for 60 years. Today's situation for mortgages is certainly not the same as before, but Rob feels that it is going in the right direction. There are more "stop-gaps" to avoid the pitfalls of past years. One important regulation put into place is mortgage lenders must now be licensed.
The mortgage rates right now for first time home buyers are great! Money is not necessarily difficult to get for qualified buyers with good credit and a reasonable down payment. If one is looking to refinance, the interest rates are good also, yet the same qualifications apply.
