Chuck Beebe was our Mini-Classification speaker today. He is a financial consultant in Naugatuck. His advice today was to have a long range investment plan. Stay in the market for the long haul and do not cash out while the market is in a state of flux. Have a diversifies portfolio. For those that are conservative investors, place more of your investments in bonds and the like. If you are a more aggressive investors, place more of your investments in Stocks.

Chuck also spoke of his involvement with Big Brothers Big Sisters. He praised his "little" brother who was featured in the Annual Report for BBBS. He said that being a Big Brother is one of the most fulfilling things he has ever done.

Our Speaker Today

Jane Lobdell introduce Chief Charles Doback of the Naugatuck Fire Department. He spoke today on Holiday Fire safety. It is very important to be mindful of Christmas trees and their condition and location in your home. Live trees must be kept watered. If the needles begin to fall off of the tree, discard the tree as it is a fire hazard. Do not position a tree near any sources of heat or flame. He showed us a video of a Christmas tree that had caught fire and in 32 seconds the entire room was engulfed in flames. If you have an artificial tree, look for the fire resistant tag. Again, do not position the tree near any open flames or sources of heat.

Do not use lighted candles as decorations. Use indoor/outdoor lights appropriately. There should only be 3 strands of lights for any one extension cord and do not tape the cord to the floor where heavy traffic will occur. This will cause the cord to wear and a fire will result.

Every home must have a smoke detector. A great gift to give someone is a Carbon Monoxide detector that is battery operated.

11,600 fires were attributed to holiday accidents. Be careful and use this great advice.
