Announcements & Information
It was announced that the local Four Way Speaking Competition will be held at the Naugatuck High School on January 8th. The finals will be held at Fairfield University on January 13th.
There will be a Board meeting on Thursday, December 20th at 5:00 at Naugatuck Valley Savings and Loan.
Our next scheduled meeting will be held on Wednesday, January 2, 2008.
Duncan reported that the joint Christmas gathering at Howland Hughes last Wednesday evening was great. Many Rotarians attended and there was a great deal of fellowship.
Our Students thanked us for the experience to attend our meeting and said that they very much enjoyed spending time with us. Plus, the food was better than the High School's.
John Ford, President Elect, told us that PrePETs will take place on January 26th from 8:30 - 1:30 at the Graduate Club in New Haven, CT. All incoming officers are expected to attend.

Our Speaker Today
Peggy Dufresne introduced Mary and Theron Simons, owners of Hidden Acres Farm in Naugatuck.
Today the topic was Therapeutic Riding. Their mission statement: "To bring together mind, body, spirit and nature as one component for the purposeful fulfillment of a rich, whole and grace-filled realization of life."
Therapeutic riding offers children and adolescents who are physically or emotionally compromised the benefit of bonding with a horse and instructor and losing fear and mistrust and replacing it with confidence, better motor skills and higher self-esteem. The instructor is certified to teach toddler to 21 years.
The Simons' have 45 acres that have farm status. They grow organic vegetables, provide riding lessons, therapeutic riding and board horses also. They are planning to build a 27,000 sq.ft. facility that will house an indoor riding ring, stall barn, education area and offices. There will also be a summer camp and riding program in the spring.
All in all their goal is to do good and spread joy.
