Our Speaker Today Jane Lobdell introduced Herb Hicks from the Rotary club of the Stoningtons. Herb is very involved with Amber Alert. He brought us up to speed with what is entailed in starting the Amber Alert program in Naugatuck. The Amber Alert program began in 1996 when Dallas-Fort Worth broadcasters partnered with local law enforcement to develop an early warning system to help find abducted children. It was created as a legacy to Amber Hagerman, a nine year old who was abducted and murdered while riding her bicycle in Arlington Texas. The Amber Child ID card displays the photo of the child along with a unique ID number. The back of the card contains essential information about the child. No name, address, school or event location is ever written on the card and the personal data on the child is guarded by making access to the information only available to the few individuals who are authorized to activate an AMBER alert. The system is ehanced by the use of strong encryption of the data for security purposes. It is necessary to update the photo annually. Infants should have their photo updated more frequently.
David and Jane Lobdell invited those that wanted to participate in learning more about how to start the AMBER Alert in our club to meet with them after our meeting.
Absent Members Today Chuck Beebe, Debbie Corso, Barbara Csanka, Peggy Dufresne, Mike Elser, Jonathan Farmer, Kelly Tracey, Donna Warner, Debbie Wheelahan, Rebecca Zandvliet
