Jeff's topic was the Multiple Sclerosis. Multiple Sclerosis is a chronic, unpredictable neurological disease affecting about 3 million people worlwide. Because of the complexity of the disease the cause and pathology of Multiple Sclerosis are still not known. Although research continues to find the cause. The progress severity and specific symtoms vary greatly from person to paerson. Some of the symptons of Multiple Sclerosis are; Blurred Vision and in some instances Blindness, Loss of Balance, Poor Co-ordination, Slurred Speech, Tremors, Numbness, Extreme Fatigue, Memory and Concentration problems, Paralysis, Stiffness, Bladder problems. The symptons are the result of inflammation and breakdowns of myelin. Meyelin is the Fatty Protective coating surrounding nerve fibers of the central nervous system, specifically the brain and spinal cord. The Myelin is often compared o the insulation that wraps the copper of an electric cord. In Multiple Sclerosis thw Myelin is destroyed and Myelin repair is prevented by scars of hardened tissue. The scars are called Plaques appearing in Multiple Sclerosis within the Brain and Spinal Cord. Some ofthe therapies; If a persons attacks are mild or infrequent the neurologist may advice a "wait and see" approach with counselling, frequent visits and close observation. Medication Therapies, Physical & Occupational Therapy, Plasmapheresis. In Jeff's case the Neorologist has him on the Plasma Exchange Simmultaneously with the Inferon therepy. Fourtunately it is working for Jeff, let us wish Jeff the full recovery.
