Remember these trips are open to Rotarians’ family and friends too, so please help us make this a success by attending and enjoying the fellowship!

She introduced Gordon LeVasseur, who just happens to be our own Jeanine LeVasseur’s son. He is a product of Naugatuck High School and has his Bachelors and Masters degree. He is currently a fifth grade teacher in Bethany where he lives with his wife and two children.
Gordon began by holding up 2 belts. The difference between them was 10 inches. In one year, Gordon successfully reduced his weight by 100 lbs. He did this on his own with strong will, exercising more and eating less. He kept a daily journal of every morsel that he put into his mouth and calculated their caloric values. He knew that 3500 calories equals 1 pound, so he began by reducing his daily caloric intake by 500 calories.
He needed to find out why he was overweight. After much soul searching he realized that the weight was his “suit of armor”. He had used his weight as an excuse. If someone disagreed with him, it wasn’t because he was wrong; it was because that person didn’t like overweight individuals. He, of course, had to stop this line of thinking and take responsibility for who he was.
He made a commitment to himself and to his family to live a healthier lifestyle. He put a face on his endeavor…his wife and children. He wanted to be a good example for them and be able to live a long life right along with them.
His advice can to us…you must be the change you wish to see in the world. Focus on your goals. Everyday is a challenge that can be met, but there will be days that you slip. Don’t berate yourself for it. Accept it and move back on track.
Although Gordon achieved his weight loss goals and is healthier physically, emotionally he changed too. The real change came by being more open and honest with himself.
