Sergeant at Arms Duncan Stephens fined Marcelo Martins for a great job that he did on the bus trip to NYC and Laurie Yelding for missing the bus.

Happy dollars: Jane Walsh for her brand new grand daughter and Tracey Kelly for her husband’s birthday.

 

 

Announcements & Information

 

The Roses were distributed today. Great job everyone and especially to Marcelo Martins!!!!

 

The bus trip to NYC to see the Christmas show at Radio City Music Hall was a BLAST! Even though the weather didn’t cooperate, everyone enjoyed the show and Marcelo’s entertainment on the bus was spectacular!

Please make your reservations now for the District Conference, May 1 – 3, 2009 being held in Newport, Rhode Island.

 

Jane Lobdell asked for volunteers to decorate the Christmas Tree at Saint Michael’s on Tuesday 11/25 at 10:00AM. It shouldn’t take long and help will be greatly appreciated.

 

Reminder!! Next week’s meeting will be held at the Elk’s Club.

 

Friday evening, November 14th is our Paul Harris Award dinner. $35 pp and cash bar. The festivities begin at 6:30

Dick Young Chairman of the Denan Project accepting  two, count them, two
Paul Harris awards last thursday. One from the Watertown club in  dist. 7890
and one from PDG Chip Lewis for Dist 7980. The first aid hut is now a  29 room
hospital with 35 employees, and the water pipe line is almost 
complete with a majority of the 15 water-outlets sponsored by Rotary 
clubs from Ct, Fla and Colorado.55,000 patients have been treated 
free of charge in our four years.

 

Chip Lewis came by the Denan table to offer a more informal
congratulations to Dick. Kathy Owens and Duncan are founding
members of the Denan Project.

Our Speaker Today

Our speaker host today, Ray Dowling introduced Lydia deHippolytis co-founder the Naugatuck Garden Club.

The Naugatuck Garden Club is a hard working group of dedicated volunteers and members. They have over 90 active members and have been recognized by receiving 2 Gold Medal Awards – one in education and one in civic beautification.

A sampling of projects that the Garden Club has done: they have refurbished the fountain on the green and maintain the gardens that surround it; They purchased the gazebo on the green; they maintain the gazebo at Oak Terrace Senior Housing Complex and they plant, water, fertilize and maintain 17 sites throughout the town.

In May of every year, the Garden Club has a plant sale. Perennials are grown and donated for the sale by members. The proceeds go towards a scholarship for a high school senior looking to major in horticulture.
