Our Speaker Today

Michael Steir introduced Albin Weber from The Fifth Connecticut Regiment which is a revoluntionary war regiment dating back to 1775.

The regiment was initially formed in May 1775, when the Connecticut legislature created six regiments in response to the hostilities begun at Lexington and Concord. The regiment was then composed almost entirely from officers and men of Fairfield County. David Waterbury of Stamford was named first colonel. His fellow officers hailed from Greenwich, Stamford, Stratford, Fairfield, Norwalk, Ridgefield, Danbury, Greenfield Hill, Newtown, Ripton, New Fairfield, North Stratford and Redding.

Today, the regiment recreates battles of the war. They try to be authentic in everyway. Their uniforms are made to exacting specifications, down to the woolen fabric which is manufactured in France. The cost of a uniform is $800.00. The muskets are made in Italy and are modeled after the original fire arms used by the revolutionary soldiers and cost $1200.00.

They also visit middle schools in the area, telling the tale of the common soldier and giving inspiration to the youth of our country in patriotism, honor and history.

You may visit their website: www.5cr.org.
