Speaker host Jennifer Merrill introduced Edie Hardwick of The Lutheran Home in Southbury, CT. Edie spoke to us regarding memory loss and how The Lutheran Home is specializing in the care of individuals with dementia of all kinds. Currently, The Lutheran Home is only one of two non-profit facilities in Connecticut that deals with Alzheimer's Disease. She explained that everyone has "normal" memory loss. We've all misplaced our car keys, lost our glasses or can't remember someones name to whom we were just introduced. That is not a concern. What is, is putting your car keys in the refrigerator because you believe that they need to be kept cold. The Lutheran Home also councils families and caregivers of patients afflicted with dementia. Although there is no cure for Alzheimer's, there are treatments available to slow the progression of the disease. For more information, call the Lutheran Home of Southbury at 203-264-9135.
