Announcements & Information

Our Annual Meeting was great! Jeannine LeVasseur served as our emcee and was wonderful. She had something to say about almost everyone and injected humor in her "roasts" which had everyone laughing.

The new officers and board of directors were inducted by Past District Governor Jim Lang.

President Marcelo Martins addressed the club with comments that follow:

President Marcelo Martins

"I joined Rotary in 1999

When I was asked to join I didn't know what Rotary International was, I thought this might be good for networking.

But, what I have learned over the years is what Rotary International is all about it's the worlds 1st service club and has 1.2 million members and has 33,000 clubs worldwide. It is a group of business and professional people in the community that promote community-betterment and goodwill and peace through-out the world.

As a person Rotary has changed me in the way I see my community and the world and how we can help by doing a little that means so much to so many people in our world.

I'm proud to say that every Wednesday I have lunch with 40 of my friends.

Since the Polio Plus program's inception in 1985, more than two billion children have received oral polio vaccine. But Rotary's work is not done: The disease has not yet been eradicated.

The Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation has awarded US$255 million to Rotary International in the global effort to eradicate polio, bringing the total committed by Rotary and the Gates Foundation to $555 million.

Bill Gates shared a story from his trip to India in November 2008, when he held in his arms a nine-month-old girl that has polio.
"She obviously didn't understand why people were poking her legs and looking so serious. But she'll never be able to kick a ball around, never be able to play hide-and-seek with her friends, because she has polio,"
Bill Gates said.
"As I held her in my arms, I thought, We can end this."
Fellow Rotarians we can and we will eradicate Polio with your help.
Remember
The Future of Rotary is in your hands.

I would like to leave you with that and say Thank You for coming to our Annual Meeting

Thank You"

Not only did Past District Governor Jim Lang induct our new officers, he also was our entertainer

"Wizard Jim". He performed astonishing tricks that boggled the mind.

President Marcelo almost had a very short term!

Thank you as always to Duncan Stephens for taking all the photographs!
