Sergeant at Arms: Jeff Chipokas took Happy dollars from Laurie Yelding, Duncan Stephens, Jane Lobdell, Rebecca Zandvliet, Sheila Elser, and Zeke Zehnder.

One sad dollar was contributed by Mike Elser because he was on vacation LAST week.

Announcements & Information

Jane Lobdell announced that our annual Christmas Party will be held at St. Michael's Church again this year and the date is December 12th starting at 1:00PM and will last until 3:00PM .

Jeff Chipokas asked for raffle prizes and players for the Rotary Golf Outing at Wyantenuck on September 16th. Registration begins at 11:00 AM. Lunch at 11:30AM and Shotgun Start at 1:00PM.

The cost is $155 per person and includes lunch,18 holes of golf with a cart, and buffet dinner.

Our Speaker Today

Speaker host Mike Elser introduced his wife Sheila. Sheila told us of her experience participating in a triathlon. The modern triathlon began in 1974. The best known triathlon is the Hawaiian Iron-man. The triathlon became an Olympic event in 1980.

The triathlon that Sheila entered was a Sprint which was a 1/4 mile swim in Lake Quassapaug, a 12.4 mile bike ride and a 3.1 mile run. Sheila began training at the YMCA of Waterbury in the Tri Club. Sheila finished the triathlon and did not come in last. She was inspired by many of the 500 participants and her cheering section.

Sheila will be competing in an all women's triathlon in September. We wish her the best of luck! She lives the motto of the Tri Club at the YMCA, "All you have to do is TRI"
