Our Speaker Today Ginger Fennel the speaker host introduced her daughter Courtney who spoke on her summer experience at Camp Philmont in New Mexico. Courtney is a member of the Adventure Scouts, youth ages 14 to 20 in a Boy Scout Program which is designed to build character, develop citizenship and foster personal fitness. The Adventure Crew plans outdoor trips and learns the skills to complete them safely. The main experience at the camp was a 10 day 100 mile hike to Mount Baldy's 12,441 summit carrying all their supplies in 45 lb backpacks. The temperature begin in the morning about 50 degrees and then went up to 90 by afternoon. Courtney's nickname for this adventure was Dora Flora (hat) the Explorer. Courtney and the crew began training for this camp last March hiking trails through Mass and CT and began their experience at camp on July 13th. This experience was very rewarding and fun for her, teaching adventure activities, back packing, horseback riding, climbing, and especially leadership skills. She will always remember her adventure and the new friends she made. If you know any young person that would be interested in this program contact Ginger or Ed Fennell. The Adventure Crew meets at St. Michael's Church in Naugatuck.
