Our Speaker Today

Speaker host Rebecca Zandvliet introduced Ed Carter, Naugatuck Mayor's Aid to our group.

Ed spoke to us regarding the proposed synthetic field at the High School. The need is great for correcting the drainage on Veteran's field. Synthetic grass is the choice of many. The cost 2.1 million dollars. 900,000 of that cost is drainage work due to the amount of ledge and lack of topsoil. Drainage is poor right now and piping would need to be put into place to direct the water away from the field.

Instead of putting an additional burden on the taxpayers of the borough, Ed proposed a brick walk "Pathway of Honor, Pride and Tradition" for which commemorative bricks would be sold with the donor information engraved into the bricks. The 4" x 8" red bricks would cost $100 and have 3 lines of type and the 8" x 8" Gray bricks cost would be $200 and have 3 lines of type and a logo or 5 lines of type without the logo. Because this project is partnering with the NEDC, the cost will be tax deductible to the donor and payable in 4 installments.

The "kick off" will occur on March 20th with a Walk-a-thon at the High School Track. Sponsor a walker for $1.00 per lap for 10 laps! Inthe case of inclement weather, the walk will happen indoors at the high school.

Absent Members Today

Brian Barrett, Anne Butler, Debbie Corso, Barbara Csanka, Joe DaSilva, Peggy Dufresne, Jonathan Farmer, Tracey Kelly, Tony Purcaro, John Roman, Rupi Rupwani, Michael Steir, Donald Zehnder Jr.
